May 2026 Shooting Campout
ISRA Campout
Our troop went to the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) from Thursday night to Sunday morning for a weekend of camping and shooting sports.
During the campout, we got to shoot three different types of firearms. We shot rifles, shotguns at clay pigeons, and black powder firearms. The black powder shooting was one of the most interesting activities because we had to load the powder and ball ourselves before shooting. We also learned and practiced firearm safety throughout the weekend.

We camped in tents for all three nights and spent time hanging out around camp when we were not at the ranges. The troop cooked several meals together, including burgers and a meal of corned beef, eggs, and bacon. The food was great and helped keep everyone energized for the activities.

The campout was a fun experience that allowed us to learn new skills, spend time outdoors, and enjoy time with our fellow scouts. Everyone had a great weekend, and the trip was a memorable one for the troop.

The patrols had a good time practicing outdoor meal preparation. Some lessons were learned, and some good food was prepared. Not every meal was perfect, but we are making progress.
